New for this year, the seminar will also feature Joel Wood, a national expert on health insurance reform and regulatory issues from the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers. Of the 156 million Americans who receive their health insurance through their employer, Council member firms are the brokers or consultants to two thirds of those citizens.  Thus, preservation of the employer-provided group health insurance marketplace is the organization’s top priority, and Wood has been named repeatedly by The Hill newspaper as one of the top health insurance advocates  in Washington.

Whether or not Congress is able to pass an Affordable Care Act  “repeal/replace” bill, there will be multiple  federal legislative and regulatory challenges facing employers who offer health benefits. As long as health care reform and tax reform are on the Washington agenda, taxation of benefits is going to be a threat.  As Joel likes to say, “When you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu!”
